Ever since I saw my first William Morris print when I was a little girl, I was hooked on embroidery! What style he and his compatriots had! I remember seeing some examples of his work at the Children’s Cottage of the Breakers, a “summer cottage” owned by the Vanderbilts, in Newport, Rhode Island. Thank goodness for the Victorians and their love of collections! I started with cross-stitch and counted thread work. I’ve now graduated to decorative surface embroidery. As long as I have a needle in my hand, I’m happy!
Around the same time, during school field trips, Christmas pageants, and family excursions, I fell in love with historical costumes – pioneer dresses, Shakespearean clothes, and later, Charles Worth’s gowns. Wonderful!! This was the beginning of my life-long passion for history and historical costume. I was even lucky enough in high school to be able to visit the costume warehouse in Stratford, Ontario, and to work with one of their dresses for a high school play!
Many years later, I finished school, and I conceived the idea to open my own shop. I am now able to have my dreams become a virtual reality **pun intended =) **. I welcome you to my vision and hope that you become as inspired as I have been over the years!
